The 4.0 litre engie was one of the best, it was fitted to the XJ40-sports saloon during 1988-1992 and this was a special model. I don't think this is the model that you own, and the XJ40 was often in an unfortunate jade green colour, and expensive to run and maintain, just like your car.

I'm not sure,but I think that all classics becomes after 50 years..25 years any car becomes a classic. Doesn't matter whether it is a good car or not. If the cars are prone to rusting out they are worth a whole lot more in good condition.

ah...bad luck.. I live in coventry and know jags, i worked there... it wont last long enough to be classic... frankly im amazed it lasted this long... we were cutting so many corners we were running around in circles, getting nowhere...dont get me wrong, beautiful cars, but made out of "cheap" materials and slipshod processes. the only reasen they were any good was down to the skills of the guys who assembled them...

but they werent ever rustproofed properly, they'd sit outside at browns lane for many months... or on the airfield thewy were using... remember teh coupe' with the vinyl roof... they parked hundreds of them outside, and teh roofs all went rusty... so it was cheaper to sand em down and fit vynil roofs... volvo had the same problem with the 76-77 240's.. and fords with the Mk3 escort and mk 3 fiestas...

flog it while you can..buy a post 90 one...it was owned by fords... but thats only a mondeo floorpan steering suspension and engine in a jag body. and fords are cutting the same corners as british leyland did in an effort to cut spiralling costs... and we all know where that leads, dont we? me, i have an 88 volvo 760 estate TDi, looks like new, drives like new, and had no signs of rust whatsoever... its been to the moon and back and on the original engine. quality, and a 25yr lifespan...
