Question:
Problem; owner doesn't know car well-can't say what happened, if stick in tranny pan or elsewhere.
What's the worst that could happen if it was inside the pan?
Any other way to check fluid level other than get replacement cap?

Are Volkswagon Cabrio's good car?
The three-speed auto transmission has a dipstick accessible from under the hood. The four speed auto doesn't have a dipstick. There is a small bolt on the bottom of the transmission that you have to remove. You need to jack up the car and keep it on four stands to keep the car level. If a little fluid comes out when you open the screw from underneath the car, then the tranny is filled properly. If not, then you need to add some ATF through the vent cap on top of the tranny until it starts leaking out of the hole where the bolt/screw goes. You do this while the car is running in park.280 SE 111027---where can I get parts-like seats?
Don't walk, but run quickly away from this car! Funny the owner doesn't know what happened, and the Cavalier is a low end car. Maybe you can find a Honda or Toyota, I am pretty much a fan of those, I have owned and still do own Hondas and I never have had a problem, never. Just keep up on your regular oil changes, and maintenance, and they go for along time. Good luck.I have a 2000Honda Accord...When should I change my oil?
The red screw-in cap is only for adding fluid, you check it by removing 1/8 pipe plug at where RH axle exits trans-axle.has to be running and fluid at operating temp.should be just dripping out a little .More Questions & Answers ...
