Question:
I've had issues with my 2002 Chevy Malibu for a couple of months. I filled the coolant about a month ago. Today it was almost completely empty and I had to fill it again. That's excessive and it has also been running slightly hotter than usual. Not hot, but just more so than normal. I started looking around at the hoses for signs of leakage and what I found was a small puddle collected in a lower part of the motor. I can't see any hoses even near it. It looks like it come straight out of the engine. It's a 2002 Chevy Malibu. V6. I've owned it 10 months. just since I noticed this problem I have days where the car just seems to have slightly less power than usual. Could it be something minor like a hose or what else could be the issue?

It is pretty expensive to replace. The labor time is about 6.5 hours. Not sure about the parts but you have to purchase a gasket kit.
My husband is a mechanic for a Chevy dealership and has informed me of this.
92 Gran Prix dies,won't restart?
I,m not familiar with Malibu but sounds like a holed core plug. If so not expensive but best bet get it checked out asap - any leak will cost you more and more the longer you leave itIs Hyundai made in North Korea or China?
usally if the block is cracked ,it will smoke real bad,(thick white smoke) you may have a head gasket leaking allowing a small amount of anti-freeze to leak into the engine and burn off ...just a thought...or check inside the car for leakage the heater core might be bad...that will leak into the car ...but you would smell the antifreeze /...Are there pins on the back of the '97-'01 Acura Integra badge that says "Acura"?
chevy has six cylender engine design flaw.there is an issue with the intake gasket. It is expensive to change, and it lasts about 2 to 4 years between changes., and will loose coolant .
Intake Manifold gasket leak may be the culprit.cracked blocks are associated with older cars and not very comon nowdays...
Owners of 07 Dodge Nitro have you had problems?
You could have a blow head gasket that would allow water to leak into the block. While the engine is ruining take the radiator cap off and check for bubbles in the col ant caution do this only when the engine is coolIt could be a hose, water finds its own path, try putting a dye in the water, which will leave a trail to follow.
What should i get? Mercedes CLS550 or the S550?
More than likely you have a intake gasket leaking . common problem with this 3.1 engine. to be sure have it pressure checked. What do you think of fords new plans?
you would figure after 100 years GM would know how to build a good engine...NOPE. i agree with intake theory...get if fixed NOW befor u do burn the blockJust to throw another possibility, however unlikely...Have you checked that the heater core is not leaking... If you are getting a film on the window, thats a sure sign the core is bad! If the hose is leaking, you may have over looked it being on the back/side of the engine and it may be finding its own way down past your engine, which would also smell due to the water steaming on your engine... The fact that it runs differently would say the head gasket, Im not sure how anyone is getting the intake gasket is beyond me... anyway, I know I would rather check the heater core before the head gasket. Are you getting water in your oil? oil in your water?
Will a broke timing chain cause a coil pack to not fire 98 cavalier 2.2?
Could be a hose, you should check all the hoses for a pinhole leak in a hidden spot. Hose leaks are not easy to spot, until the hose fails severly. Could also be the heater core, you may notice a fogged-up windshield, strong smell of coolant while driving, or steam coming from vents, or a puddle on the floormats. What would make a 2003 accura not start?
For the intake leak, check around the intake for signs of coolant. Also check to make sure oil isnt getting "higher" on dipstick. If antifreeze leaks from manifold or head inside the engine, the oil level will appear higher than normal. This is the most serious, as antifreeze in oil will ruin engine bearings over time.
It is most likely your intake gasket, particularly if the leaking fluid is orange (dexacool) - I have a 2003 Malibu, and at about 60 000 km, I had exactly the same problem you are having - I took it into the dealer and they replaced the intake gaskets - If you don't have a warraty with the car, you are looking at a few hundred to fix it
