My stock V8 is just not getting it, what easy stuff can I do?

Its an 89 model Chevy with a 350, and brand new rebuilt tranny with the shift kit. Its already kickin but, but I want to get around 50 horse power added on to it in the easiest fashion.

Try headers - @$150. It is an '89, assuming it is fuel injected, get a cold air intake kit @$250. Not sure where you live, but in podunk Louisiana (I'm in the army) no one checks for catalytic converters during inspections. Some states don't even have vehicle inspections if one of these applies to you get rid of you catalytic converter. Add dual exhaust with performance mufflers. Exhaust shop will do the pipes, but ebay the mufflers (seller 'performance-curve' has great deals) @$60 each. Change the camshaft @$150, try Summit, Jegs or Northern Auto Parts. The camshaft will get you the most ponies per dollar, but you will need some know-how or someone who does. Good luck.

the quickest think you can do is get nitro but thats not very pauseable, so head down to mapar or whatever and ask them for an EMC or OCM i think the name of them are, its a computer that you hook up to the engine and it healps the engine ALOT. maybe 25-40 hp. its a little chip. 100-1000$ tuners have them alot

I don't know if you will think this is easy or not, but one of the best cost-effective ways to boost horsepower is with a set of exhaust headers connected to a set of low pressure mufflers. You change the factory exhaust over to a custom made set of tube-type head pipes. These are made by Hooker and other performance auto companies. Pick up your latest Hot Rod magazine and look for their ads. If I remember the 350 really turns on when headers are added, and they are not real expensive. Good luck!

i own a repair shop and about the quickest and cheapest thing you can do is add a good set of headers to it that will give it about 20 maybe more,then add a performance chip that will kick it up another 15-20 % out of all of this you can gain about 40-50 horse power from it,there's only so much you can gain though from anything you do ,there is a point that it will start loosing power because the 89 model 350 had real low compression,and isn't going to gain a whole lot more than 75 horse power and it being stock,good luck hope this helps.

well which fuel injection setup is it? TBI or TPI? TPI is the better of the two for power...maybe look into some VORTEC heads off a later model 350...headers, and exhaust will help too just dont go overboard

Headers add 15-25 hp, tops. The cheapest way to get another 50 hp is a shot of nitrous. The smartest way would be headers/catback/cam, and a good tune.
