I disagree with most of these answers. The CTS is a top-notch ride and and one can easily look at the impact of the Escalade on the SUV market much before BMW and Benz even showed up. And as soon as you say Cadillac has nothing they hit you with an SRX a whole new market. The SRX BMW and Mercedes are actually chasing Caddy. And neither company has anything in the XLR-V class of course if 440 is something your not interested in. Maybe a Caddy ain't for you. You can't get 400 in a BMW or a Benz unless you go into the 100K arena. And just between you and I the interior is not all that great. Jaguar still and always have the best interior at least the wood is real. If I were to spend that kind of money I would still have a CTS-V or something better than a BENZ or a BMW.

The Cadillac CTS is a solid small luxury-performance sedan which can hold it's own. It's the closest Cadillac has ever been to equalling what BMW and Mercedes build. It also helps that Mercedes quality has declined massively since the 1980s while Cadillac/GM's quality has improved dramatically since then. BMW has lost their focus a little bit IMO and they have made some really weird looking cars recently (so has Cadillac)
So i'd say in terms of performance the CTS and CTS-V are solid competition for the equivalent BMW and Mercedes models. I'd say in terms of luxury/quality of the interiors and the the designs Cadillac still has a long way to go on the mid and high end cars, but they are doing a good job of improving. I am not a big fan of the way their cars look right now, but at least it is unique and you recognize a Cadillac as a Cadillac when you see it. They deserve credit for taking a chance with the bold styling.

No, cadillacs are ugly. BMW and mercedes are by far way better. People think that cadillacs are cheaper to repair than BMW and mercedes, but thats not the case. Today alot of american cars cost about the same or even more to repair than german cars.

Cadillac can charge you $75k for a XLR, but it still shares chassis and engine with the lower-end Chevy Corvette. Each of the BMW's models is designed as a stand alone model, not sharing platforms with other vehicles. Mercedes is the same.

The big 3 American car companies will never be able to catch up with the built quality and engineering of German companies. They had a chance 3 or 4 decades ago, but the gap is now too big for American cars that GM, Ford and Chrysler will always build lower-sonsumer-grade products than their European and Japanese competitors.

No! Strangely enough I was just rear ended in my BMW 525i; and my rental car is a Cadillac CTS. There is no comparison! The Cadillac does not even come close to the handling and control of my BMW. I find that I have to constantly adjust my speed in the Caddy in order to accommodate for the sloppy handling. The ride is not as tight and the noise level (road noise) is much worse! I can't wait to get my BMW back. I will never own another brand of car.More Questions & Answers ...
