Question:
I am a good mechanic, w/ plenty of knowledge on vehicles, but this car really confuses me. it smokes really black and will only stay running if it is above 2000 rpm. On most vehicles this would tell me too much fuel, but it is direct port fuel injection, and I don't usually deal w/ that. I'm not sure weather it is a sensor, or something causing it to not get enough air, and yes duh I did change the air filter, and the normal maintance problems. There is a box w/ some sort of air restrictor that is right after the air filter, and I am not sure if that would have something to do w/ the problems, it has wires running to it, and a flap that stops/ slows down the air. I don't know if that's suppose to open up while it is running, or not. I've never worked on a toyota, and have no clue where the sensors are, or what they do, so I am not sure what my problem might be. thanx.

TPS, check the throttle body, or Mass air flow sensor could be shot.What is the difference in a grand am gt and a sc/t?
Is this supra turbocharged? Also on the plate that is there to make a vortex for the air, if the throttle is stuck shut at low speeds that would cause your problem, try spraying it with a little wd-40Are all volkswagen beetles stick shift.like the newer ones.?
