I mean who can you trust, easy to fake new parts and charge big bills and he knows i know zip. I am not even sure it was time. Lotsa miles but ran okay just ticky sounds and soeme knocking at times. He will charge about $2500 was it a justifiable decision on my part. or stupid.

Ask him for the old parts back (tell him you want to make ashtrays as gifts for your friends), if he's charging for new pistons and the bearings that he's replacing should also be returned to you, (since he IS supposedly replacing them), as you want to keep them as a reminder that you should have changed your oil more frequently..

Ask him about a guarantee or warranty on the rebuild; some shops offer six months, some a year and some even longer on rebuilt engines. When in doubt, ask!

The main thing is to stop fretting and let the person do his/her job properly; if it isn't done properly and to your satisfaction there are options, including reporting to the BBB and even legal action for fraud! I would get a full itemization of what he did to the block. If he boiled the block to clean it up, magafluxed it for fracturing and other type of damage, did a blue print and balance of the block then the price is about right for all new parts inside. There may have been some repair needed to the head to true it up as well. The last straight 6 I had done ran about the same. However we did have a bigger cam put in and extruded the exhaust. Total on that motor was $2850.78. The guy I have do my motor work, I have known for a long time. I know his work and I trust him. As with any machine shop always ask for references prior to having them do your work. I get at least 10 so you have a good range.More Questions & Answers ...
