How to check ignition switch '96 intrepid/how to repair or replace?

Question:
Car won't start. Had replaced ignition switch a few years back because it was stuck. Just figured it was a bad battery, so I bought a charger and charged to full and still nothing. I get a few clicks when i hold the key down longer, but it won't turn over. The battery charger says I might have a faulty alternator, but I'm not sure how reliable those chargers diagnostics are anyway. Any help would be appreciated.

have you tried swaping the batt with a known good one or clean the connections you can`t test the alt without the car running
