Are Japanese cars really better than American cars or is it all a myth?

Question:
For a long time now I've heard people say only buy Japanese and that US cars are crap, but is it true? Recently I hear people saying that American cars have improved a lot.

They have improved but after a huge downfall. Japenese craftsmanship is like no other. And the cars look good and are efficient. I think that was straight forward enough.

How do I check the transmission fluid on a 1997 Cavalier? The cap didn't have a dipstick.?

American cars have to improve and they start doing so when people start buying/comparing japanese cars. The most significant improvement you can see on American cars are the stylings (exterior & interior), and now they start moving to the engine especially in transmission (i.e 4 speed -> 5 speed --> even 6 speed now). However, they never catch up with the Japanese in this case, as many of you are aware of Lexus first 8-speed in the world kinda of technology. There are still a lot of room for the American makers to improve at this point especially when they want to consistently maintain their quality across their models. For example, Ford has improved quite a bit for the recent model Edge but still need a lot of work to keep up improving let's say the Focus...On the other hand, it's hardly you would see a bad civic quality while you can get a better quality in a CRV?? Ford, for instance needs to focus more and build tough for all models...then people can recognize it as a brand (Ford), just like the time people mentioned honda.consistency is the key...
