Some notable exceptions would be the Cobra R and the 03 SVT Cobra which was factory supercharged. Chevys have always been more popular to "hot rod" so its cheaper/easier often to make them faster than stock too.

Back in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Yenko also modified Camaros and Shelby did modified Mustangs. I couldn't find much data on these, so I can't truly say which is faster, but I do remember an old Motor Trend article which compared the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z06 and Shelby GT500 KR, and the performance was comparable. I believe that's above and beyond any of the Camaros of the time.

i own a 2000 ss intercepter, an 88 iroc, a 92 5.0 and an 05 gt mustang... and camaros are all around faster. mustang gt500's and cobra R's dont really count, as intercepters and callaways dont count.but an intercepter will outrun a cobra.

A mustang is faster out of the gate. If it has a 302 or an older one with a 289, they leave Camaros sitting at the light. But the top end, the end of the run, if you will, a lot of times the Camaro will take the finish because the camaro usually has a 350 in it which is a big block while a mustang has a small block v-8. It does matter who is driving it, whether or not it is an automatic and the size of the motor. Now, if the Camaro has a small block 327? The Mustang will probably not win that race. I am talking about stock here, not souped up or modified. But hey, I am just a dumb woman.lol!Let's ask John Force? LOL!

Camaro is faster, on a "same year vs. same year" basis. Even the Cobras couldn't beat the Camaro SS until about 2003 (could have been 2004, I can't recall).
If you are just posing a general question, in the era of "run what you brung," anyone can beat anyone. Depends on who is modded better.
PS - Terrorsquad77 - the 2002 SS had 325 hp and the SLPs had 345-350. No production Camaro exceeded 350 hp. Hell, the Vette only had 350 hp in 2002, so why would Chevy make a Camaro that can outrun the Vette?
