What controls the time the glow plugs stay on, in a 7.3 litre diesel, is this done through the glow plug rela

Question:

Answers:

Why do fords make the best hot rods.?

The PCM(Engine control unit in these is called PCM, or Powertrain Control Module) controls time that the glow plugs remain on. usually on a cold day, this can be as much as two minutes. The GPR receives a signal from the PCM in engage, and relays voltage straight to the glow plugs. If you are having trouble, you might want to test the voltage drop from the hot (bat) side of the relay to the PLUG side ( the other large terminal opposite it. This should not be more than 1.5 volts difference. Other problem sources are the "Under Valve Cover" harnesses coming loose... a bit more involved. Or possibly your batteries don't have the UMPH they need. The PCM needs 11 volts while cranking to fire the injectors... a battery can still crank the truck, but not have sufficient power for the PCM.
Good luck!
