Is anyone else getting poor gas mileage on the 2006 Nissan Altima?

I got my 2006 Altima in April and now it has about 10,000 miles on it now. It seemed like I was constantly filling up so I decided to calculate. I filled up then drove for about 200 miles then filled up again at about 1/4 of a tank. The tank took about 13 gallons. 200/13= about 15 MPG. This is very poor in comparison to the 20-28 mpg promised. I do have some what of a lead foot but still these mileage rates are comparable to my father's Cadillac. Has anyone else had this problem? What could it be? Oh and I took it to Nissan today and they said they couldn't find anything wrong...Help!!

The EPA Mileage Figures are always way Higher than actual Real-World Use. That's supposed to change next Year. If You are determined to Prove your Point, here's what to do. Run Your Gas Tank on down to about 1/4 Tank, since going any lower than that could burn up Your Fuel Pump. Okay, once You do that, take a Photo of Your Dash, with the Key On, and a Copy of that Day's Local Newspaper in the same Photo. Make sure the Gas Gauge and Odometer are in the Photo. Okay, then Fill it on up, and make sure You get a Receipt. Then, Drive the Car until the Gas Gauge gets to the same Spot. Take another Photo, showing the Mileage on the Odometer,and Fuel Gauge, again with a Copy of the Newspaper in the Photo.Fill up again, at the same Place, and if at all Possible, the same Gas Pump. Again, get a Receipt, then, do the Math. If it still comes up 15 MPG, then You've got a Case. That Car is supposed to get at least 20 MPG in Town {Stop & Go} Right ? Now, if You've got all the Facts & Figures & Photos together, then You've got a Case. I know it sounds like a lot of Hassle, but You've Spent a lot of CA$H for that Car, and You want it right ! Now, if the Nissan Dealership accuses You of supplying Fraudulent Information, then go to the Better Business Bureau, and the State Attorney General's Office. See, for You to Fake the Photos, Odometer, Receipts, and Newspapers would take a lot Hassle. Also, do You know anyone else that has a Car like Yours that keeps track of their Mileage ? That could add to Your Case. Hope this helps !

Do the test again, but this time keep your lead-foot out of it.
Keep in mind that the winter weather (don't know what part of the country you are in) will take its toll on gas mileage. If it is cold outside, this may not be the best time to do this.
If you are still getting poor mileage, take it into the dealer and demand they check it out... again.

I am fairly certain that mileage ratings are made from the standard 55mph. Their city ratings are also almost never realistic to what you would normally experience in a city. If you're getting 15MPG on the highway then you seriously have a problem unless you are driving 80-90MPH.

Another thing is that when you reach empty or get to your light you usually still have 2 gallons or so left.

Is your car maintained properly? From what your symptoms are, basic car maintenance is not being performed. If you have either the 2.4 or 3.5 engine you might want to start using synthetic oil (yes, i know, expensive). If you have 3.5 you should only use premium fuel since using low-grade fuel retards timing and uses more fuel to compensate for the grade. And yes, your lead foot is a factor.

Well the good news is in 2008 vehicles are actually going to be tested in real situations and real weigts inside the vehicles... so from now on your going to see cars with 15-22mpg and suv's 8-15mpg and so on...
