Question:
some of you might think that this is a stupid question or whatever, but out of curiousity... in some vehicles, what makes automatic transmissions make that whirling sound before and while they shift. Some people notice it and some don't. I'm into cars and stuff, and I always wanted to know the answer to that? My bf has a ford tempo witch I've posted stuff about on here before, automatic tempo transmissions make that sound. Just wanted to know, lol.

That sound can be caused by several things but most likely is the fluid pump (sound caused by increasing pressures) and/or the bands slight slip in between a gear change.check engine light on 1992 mustang gt 5.0 comes on?
i dont know what whirling sound youre talking about, but if you've ever seen the inside of an automatic transmission, you'll see a lot of little gears and a huge weight-like thing called a torque converter. this is filled with oil and might be the cause of the whirling sound.where is the bonnet catch on a citroen C2?
Besides that planetary gear sets might make noise. Most likely you are hearing the fluid pump inside the auto transmission. And Tell your BF it is time for a better newer car to carry you all around in.More Questions & Answers ...
