Just added engine oil?

I recently just added engine oil to my mitsubishi 03 montero I was wondering if it was ok to run the car after adding oil and then turning off the car to see if I needed to add more oil to it.

first rule,add oil with the same brand and vescosity of the oil you used on your last change oil,because sometimes,bubbles appear on mixture of diff. brand of engine oil.Second,no need to start and stop engine to check the level of oil.You have to wait for all the oil to settle in oil pan before you can get the correct level of engine oil.That means,morning is the best time to check it,or else you will wait at least 30 mins.after turning off the engine before checking it.

when changing oil and filter add 3 to 4 quarts start motor run until eng light goes off or oil pressure gage reads stop eng check oil add until oil at hash mark do not over fill it can cause problems

what you should do is when putting new oil filter fill the new one up half way then put it on.then fill the engine quart by quart until the stick reads max turn car on for a minute turn off pull stick out wipe off then place it back in then check and add if needed
