How do I replace the part between the tumblers and ignition switch on my 95 ford windstar?

Question:
It appears that the piece running between the tublers and ignition switch on the steering column has broken. How do I replace this part and does anyone know what it is called? I'd appreciate any help I can get with this as this is the veh that is currently taking my family back and forth from GA to AR for a family illness situation.

If it's the ignition lock cylinder you are referring to, you can't. The only way to fix it, is to replace it. I know EXACTLY what you are talking about because it's VERY common for the ignition lock cylinders of that era to have the outer housing where the key goes in, to break and spin freely. To replace is VERY easy. Stick your key into the lock cylinder. Turn it to the RUN or ON position (the key position, when the engine is running). With a straight pick, or even a strong tooth pick, insert into the hole on the underside of the steering column shroud. Note: There are other holes underneath where screws are in place to secure the upper and lower halves of the shroud together. The hole I'm referring to is the one that is closest to the lock cylinder. Stick the toothpick or other hard straight instrument into the hole and "feel around" for a lock release detent. With one hand depressing the detent with the straight instrument, pull the ignition lock cylinder with key OUTWARD (toward the passenger side front door) to remove. Replacement is just the reverse of removal. Go to your local Ford dealer parts department to purchase your replacement ignition lock cylinder assembly which includes two new keys (Ford Base Part Number 11582). Note: Once repair is carried out, this means you will have two new keys to operate the ignition, while your old key operates all the other doors. Hope this helps.

the parts department at the Ford dealer will tell you how to do it, if not the autozone (It was from a national auto part retailer, I'm thinking it was autozone) one has the instructions in it.
