go get yourself a 1986 5.0 litre short block and 1987 and up cylinder heads. Bolt those puppy's on and replace the timing chain. There you go a 5.0 with lots of compression ratio and good power band. That's what I did with my car along with a performer edelbrock intake and 600 cfm carb with shorty headers 1 5/8 and flowmaster exhuast. I tell you what your truck will come to life just like my car did. Im going to put on the summit intake stage 2 on my car I will mail you the results if you like.

put in a 5 liter mustang /crown vic. This engine has been used for over 40 years and in the 80's roller cam and rockers were added.you can't beat it and its easy to find for a couple hundred bucks at a wrecking yardwell are you wanting good gas mileage or horsepower? I would put a 4.9 fuel injected to get better gas mileage. in my 82 ford I had a 5.0 and was paying about $50 a week filling it. and since then i bought a 92 ford 150 and it was fuel injected and I've been running on a full tank for the last 3 days and that's with driving to school and work.
