Question:
Yes, this is a small low whistle coming from the engine that happened this afternoon in very cold weather after the car ran fine this morning and was parked for 4 hours in 28 degree weather.
A month ago I got a new battery and alternator installed so I'm guessing nothing is wrong there. What is this noise? How can I best troubleshoot this?

What is the cost of Maruti swift Diesel VXi on road, chennai?
As the others said,it could be a vacuum leak, but it could also be your I.A.C. valve. They are very temperature sensitive when they are going bad.Does it also want to stall on cold start? Oh yeah, I.A.C. stands for idle air control. It's a common problem on Ford/Lincoln/Mercury products in cold climates.Volkswagens... Best Year/Model/engine for tuning?
It could be a head gasket.not a big deal if it just happened in the cold weather wait and see if it goes away. The time and effort and money to find a whistling noise that only happened when the car was cold one time, hey if you are bored and rich start digging into but its probably nothing.
