Iridium Spark Plugs, Upgraded Cold Air Intake, Larger Diameter Exhaust, etc. Neuspeed® specializes in European and Japanese cars. I recommend checking out the Neuspeed mods, including a P-Chip, a mild to moderate camshaft set (racing cams might cause you to fail inspection and may cause drivability problems at low speed). Upgrade the brakes too. Neuspeed makes cross-drilled and/or slotted rotor options (better heat and gas dissipation), as well as braided stainless steel and Teflon® brake hoses. I haven't looked at their catalog for you car, but they probably have fuel injectors to boost your performance too. Some people swap out the turbocharger with one from an Audi TT (VW owns Audi). Neuspeed also makes progressive rate springs (I recommend the SofSport springs - they are soft until you start to get aggressive - then they answer more firmly to control body roll, etc.) and racing springs. You can also upgrade your anti-sway bars under the car and install strut tie bars. For dress up under the hood, Neuspeed makes billet aluminum oil caps, radiator caps, pulleys, etc. You can also go to AutoZone and pick up colored silicone hoses for your emissions control. You can also get colored wraps for other hoses and wires you shouldn't replace (chemical compatibility).
For dress up outside, consider searching ProCarParts for some trim accessories, your VW dealer for custom license plate frames, and eBay for LED taillights, HID headlight upgrades, etc.

Start with Bosch Iridium plugs. Send your ECU to Neuspeed for a chip upgrade. Order a set of drilled rotors and ceramic brake pads (don't go fast if you can't stop!). Put in a Cold Air Intake (just a cone filter without a cold air provision will rob you of hp - hot air is bad for efficiency in a gas engine). Put on a larger diameter (more free flowing) exhaust system: "Cat Back" (from your catalytic converter back to the tail pipe). 5 or 6 speed manual is better than automatic.
