How long can I expect my Jetta to last?
I believe the blue wire (terminal E?) goes directly to the knock sensor. The yellow wire (term C?) goes to the computer, and the pink wire (term B?) goes to the ignition switch.
I'll see if I can find a wiring diagram...

If this is a early to mid 80's chev. I suggest you do away with that control alltogether. Most of these trucks with 305's had the spark retard system. A factory fix to this very flawed system included a quick way to defeat this system. Find the flat 4 wire connector from(and close to) the distributor and disconnect it. Look on the connector for the raised lettering (on the distributor side) of A,B,C,D. Cut and strip the A and C wires and connect together-away from the connector-on the distributor side. You now have a fully functioning HEI distributor completely seperate from any other control or influence! The down side is pinging under severe full throttle hauling or extreme light throttle cruseing. A good re -jettable carb on top of a clean intake manifold with the thermac air cleaner allways open along with the exhaust heat riser not closing off the exhaust and a good 180 degree thermostat with a 1/8 in. hole drilled in the perimeter(for constant movement of coolant) will get you started towards a new and improved engine that will perform well and live long provided you have a clear radiator and strong air movement at idle when hot outside with full AC going. I assume you have no emmission test -so lose the catalytic converter-but retain a full length exhaust system for future engine monitoring for sound and oil consumption observations.More Questions & Answers ...
