Ground clearance for headers can be a major sticky point-espeacially if you plan to lower the front end lower than wore out stock specs! Iv'e seen headers on this truck cause major loss of steering control when bottomed out at high speed. I've seen interior carpets smoke and catch fire with to snug a fit of headers to-cab . A good compromise is a restored height front end with taller tires and an air dam along with a good(2in) clearance all around the exhaust with high temp cab floor and firewall barriers.Where can I find some schematics for a 2002 Ford Crown Victoria transmission?

Racer 123 isnt to far of with his comments. Although I dont know about ground clearence, because most if not all headers for the 4.3ltr v6 are shorty headers. But the thing about heat is correct. I ran a 350 v8 in a '89 with shorty headers (long headers are available for this combo) and a custom exhaust, with aluminum covered fiber glass shielding, on the outside floorpans and Jet coated headers that were fiberglass wraped. And my feet would get very warm. Not such a problem in the winter, but in summer and no air that wasnt always fun. Also unless you've done a cold air intake/power programer, and high flow cat and cat back exhaust the headers wont be able to realise their full potential. The headers are just a good start to getting preformance. In order to get full potential you must be able to pull air in as easily as you are able to push it out. As far as actualy installing them, theres realy only one way to learn: read everything you can get your hands on, make sure you get the right parts, and tools, talk to people that have done it,and get your hands dirty. Thats how I learned, and still keep learning. You do Have a 4.3v6 right? Otherwise if its a 2.2, the headers are a waste you'll never get any decent power out of a 2.2 without a turbo, at that point just drop a 350 instead.REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
CAUTION
Never open, service or drain the radiator or cooling system when hot; serious burns can occur from the steam and hot coolant. Also, when draining engine coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted to ethylene glycol antifreeze and could drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantities. Always drain coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or is several years old.
Properly relieve the fuel system pressure, then disconnect the negative battery cable.
Drain the engine cooling system, then disconnect the air duct from the air inlet.
Disconnect the upper radiator hose, then remove the upper fan shroud.
Remove the radiator assembly, then remove the lower fan shroud.
Remove the fan assembly, then remove the serpentine drive belt.
Remove the water pump.
Disconnect the heater hose from the intake manifold and the thermostat housing, then remove the thermostat housing.
Remove the alternator support brace and disengage the alternator wiring.
If equipped, remove the A/C compressor with brackets, then position them aside. DO NOT disconnect the refrigerant lines, but be careful not to kink and damage them. In some cases the A/C compressor can remain attached to the accessory bracket as long as the rear pencil brace is removed. This will enable the compressor to be sat aside when sitting the accessory bracket aside.
