2nd and 3rd are the manufacturer
4-8 are manufacturer chassis codes typically
9th is year i believe
10-15 are serial #
Thats off the top of my head but i believe it is acurate, typically modern VINs tell you nothing about the particular options etc a car had other than its major body style (coupe, convertible, sedan etc)and engine option (v6, v8 etc)
