Buying old BMW ( 1993-2002)?

Question:
I am planning on buying an old BMW car, for cheap. I know that Europeans make best cars out there.... But some of my friends opinion that its an expensive thing to maintain the car. Can anyone explain how would BMW maintenance car will be more and if you have breakdown and comparision with Toyota-Chevy-Ford-Honda... Please do give me. Also if you have similar experiences please share with me.

Your results may vary; but I've had 2 good experiences with very reliable 5-series sedans. Maintenance is no more than on other makes. Some parts are significantly more expensive, but then again fewer problems typically occur.

what is better a dodge nitro or the ford edge?

My experience with Ford for instance, has been that engines and transmissions require replacement within the first 100K miles. Not so with BMW. My experience with Chevrolet is similar, and they're just not assembled tightly or something. Toyota and Nissan were reasonably good to me, but engine seal leaks, timing belts, water pumps, alternators, etc. were issues, and again, Not So with BMW.

Overall, unless you get a lemon, they are great cars. Check the owner forums. Many owners are fanatically loyal - for a reason.
