i got a 1990 subaru legacy with an NA 2.2L fwd boxer 4.... i was wondering if it would be save to bolt on a turbo from one of the turbo models without loosing much reliability.. im not planing on runing full boost either.. i dont want to end up blowing my engine ^^ it only has 140k miles on it too... thanks :D

It depends on how well the engine has been taken care of. Regular maintenance, oil changes when their due, that sort of thing. It also depends on who installs the turbo. You can't just slap one on and expect it to work correctly. Basically they need to know what their doing. There could be alot of differences between the turbo and NA models. Compression ratio, fuel injectors, computers.1995 ford escort overheats and heater doesn't work?

It is gonna be a few more bolts than just the turbo. This may run you anywhere from 1K-5K in parts. If it is done right, you shouldn't have any problems with the engine.It wouldnt be entirely too safe. Oh you could do it and it would be pretty easy to do but the stock motor would take a beating. You say "only" 140K miles but thats a lot buddy. The pistons and everything else would take one hell of a beating if you were to turbo the thing.

i would reccomend a swap because your car is high mileage right now. and if you wanted to run a turbo off another subie. then you would still need like enginemangement and stuff too. its a bit more complicated then simple bolt on unfortunately.Having problems with a 2000 Chevy Cavalier. HELP!?
Yes you can, if it's done right by a professional. Only problem is finding the exhaust manifold that will fit. Keep in mind though that any modification like adding a turbo will make the engine slightly less reliable as well as consuming a lot more fuel. I had a 2.0 N/A engine before and I was getting 30-35mpg.
