If a band was slipping you would bounce from one gear to the last and back again. If your feeling slippage--this is not a band. only if it can't hold a gear would it be. But, bands are not a easy thing to change in most cases--still requires the transmission to be disassembled. You need to take it to a shop---it maybe the torque converter that is going bad, the front pump, clutch packs, or a hole list of small parts.
