Question:
I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 4.7 liter V-8 engine. About a month ago I went to start the vehicle and all I got was a strange clicking noise coming from under the dash & my gauges were spinning all the way around. I waited a few seconds & tried again & the vehicle started with no problem. This has happened 3 more times & each time it happens my trip odometer resets to 0. My miles per gallon computer in my overhead console is all over the place with the mpg. average and it's yet to get back up where it was prior to this happening the first time which is about 15 mpg. 3 days ago I arrived home & went to use my remote to lock the doors & set the alarm & nothing happened,I tried 2 or 3 more times & still nothing happened so I walked back to the vehicle & could hear that strange clicking noise I mentioned before & I wasn't using the remote anymore let alone trying to start the jeep. Was told a new battery would help so I replaced it but my mpg avg.is still crazy. Please help me.

i mechanic for a living,,and own a shop,i have seen this problem before on the jeeps,,it has a bad ground on it,,and what its trying to do is draw a good ground through the next available circuit it can find,,strangely enough this only happens on the ones that have security systems on them,,the ground wires you need to look for ,,is one by the battery, and the one from the battery to the engine,,and one in under the dash ,it should have one that goes from the steering column to the body ground,,if it looses this one,,all the instruments go crazy ,,its hard to find the bad ground though,,it takes some time..it took me a day to find one,,and about 5 minutes to repair it,,the customer thought 50 bucks was a good price for it,,that's all i charged for the job,,good luck if you,ll take your time you will find it,,hope this help,s.,also look directly behind the radio ,,there's a wire there that gets loose also,,good luck.Is a 1998 Isuzu Rodeo, V6 a good car?
I would look into a possible fault with the computer, take the vehicle down to a reputable dealer and have them run a diagnosticsMore Questions & Answers ...
