I know that my boyfriend is wanting to get a new stereo and prefers it to be a waterproof one since we're always having the top down. I'm trying to find a stereo that plays all cds (burned, bought, and mp3) but also with a built in HD radio tuner. We have pretty poor radio signals in the areas we are traveling the most, but I am not wanting to get into the Sirius or XM quite yet. I'm not having any luck, I'm either finding just regular waterproof stereos, or just hd tuner stereos! If anyone has any advice or clues, let me know!! Wanting to get this for him as a present!! Thanks!

No such thing. Marine stereos everyone seem to be suggesting to you are stereo covers for boats to help prevent them from getting wet due to splashing waves. Any radio will work fine. I've had my Pioneer for years now with no problems. If anything should happen to the radio it would be dust in the CD player from off roading. Then the player will have to be serviced. Luckily I have not ever had any radio serviced in any 4x4 I've owned since 1987.

As far a speakers go just make sure that they are not a paper coned speaker with a foam surround. They should last a very long time (until you blow one listening to Marlyn Manson like I did).

Your reception won't be any better with a HD tuner. It picks up signals just like a standard tuner, just with cleaner sound. Its radios way in trying to compete with Sat. Sat to me is better because I can't loose my signal, It has better music choices and no COMMERCIALS!!

As far as SAT radio.....rumor is that Sirius is looking to buy XM. I'd go with the SAT service that is growing the fastest. That would be SIRIUS.

Now for good Stereo manufactures, I'd go with Alpine. They can adapt to what ever music device you have be it I-POD or a Creative lab MP3 player like I have. I'm not talking aux input either I mean display your MP3 players information on the screen.

Check out bestbuy or ciruit city .com They have marine radios and accessories. That should be the best way to go. All of that stuff is designed for boats. Check at circuit city they have covers made for boats that keep the water out, you might have to customize it but they install at circuit city.
