1996 Grand Am Headlight replacement?

It depends on if the car needs any body work or not. If the body is in good shape, and you want a good paint job, it could cost you as much as $2500.00, but if you are not looking for a top line paint job you can get one for $500.00 to $800.00.

A paint job can cost $500-$30,000
if youre spending $500 to paint a car, youre going to get exactly that... a $500 paint job.
If youre painting it to sell it, then $500 is fine, but if youre painting it to keep it, do you really want to get a new paint job in 3 years?
For a quality paint job, this is what you should expect:
Sanding down to bare metal. THis is the only way to get a quality paint job. if you dont sand down to bare metal, the inner layers of paint that are older will trap moisture, and in a few years, this will end up rusting.
Flexing additives in the paint for plastic parts. How many times have you seen a car that has the yellow on the bumpers showing, while the rest of the car looks to be in decent shape? You must use flexing additives (most common is fish oil) when painting parts that flex.Standard automotive paint is not designed to flex, therefore, and movement of the part will chip the paint.
Steps.
Paint steps are the layers of paint. Some paint requires a top coat of clear, so this would be considered a two step paint. I have a car that has a factory 3 step paint. this means that a color was laid, then a different color was layed, then the clear coat. Its a more expensive paint process, but it gives you depth and unique colors. steps in paint enormously impact the cost. For example: The bently gt has a 16 step paint. thats 16 layers of paint... thats easily a $20,000+ job
Prepwork.
this should probably fall under "sanding", but oh well. If you have dings and dents all over the car, its going to require much more prepwork.
and finally, engine removal.
In a quality paint job, the painters will remove the engine and everything under the hood. this isnt always an issue for people staying with the same color, but if you are changing colors, a red engine bay and a blue body is going to look like ***.
COSTS:
Sanding to bare metal, with no body filler needed, with a three step paint should cost around $1500-2500
Sanding to bare metal with hail damage and a three step paint should cost around $2500-$3200
Show quality paint:
Removal of engine, bare metal sanding, moulded body effects, 4 step paint (two layers of clear) $4000+
