Question:
Is it true that Peugeots often have problems with the breaking systems?
Answers:
Don't worry about Peugeot brakes. They are the "moveable piston and caliper" type that every make of car uses these days. As the brake pads wear down, and get thinner, the piston moves closer to the brake disc. THIS IS NORMAL. Now for the problems that you could see...
In the 1970's, the brake disc was made of VERY hard steel, and it lasted forever. It NEVER wore down. Only the pads wore down. But Peugeot and all other makes learned that this was not profitable. Profit is KING nowadays.
In the 1980's they made brake discs of softer steel. Now the brake disc AND! the brake pads could wear down together, and the customer could pay for new pads and discs. Smart, heh? More profit for ALL makes of cars.
Problems? with Peugeot? Yes. I have seen the problems coming since the 1970's and here they are:
1. Now there is only ONE piston to squeeze your brake disc. (formerly 3 or 2) You must really inspect the rubber "dust covers" that protect the one piston. After 5 years they could be dry and cracked and allow dust/water to enter the lubricated surface between the sliding piston and its wall. This leads to pistons that no longer squeeze the disc. YIKES!
2. Peugeot often puts the brake lines (pipes with brake fluid) above the petrol tank and behind the tyres. This allows rain water to constantly splash upon, or dampen the pipes year after year. CORROSION! = replacement = pay $$$
THE GOOD NEWS: If you would just look at your brake pads once a year.. look at your dust covers once a year... look at the thickness of your discs once a year (10cm).. just learn how to change these in your driveway in one hour.. YOU could feel the satisfaction of working on your own car. (with basic tools)

I once had a Peugeot 10 speed with dropped handlebars that I rode down a hill with my dog sitting on the crossbar. When we approached the bottom, 'Old Gal' Wickens walked out in front of us and the brakes failed to stop us in time. She only suffered a badly sprained ankle and a bloody nose but poor old Sparky bit the dust. I never quite got over that incident and will never trust a Peugeot again.DO all Saturn models still have the dentless doors? Primarily the new Outlook.?
Brakes are same as rest of the car.. CR*P1998 BMW gas "door" doesnt lock?
it is true but just the fron calipers. if the car has been stood a while some of the calipers will seaze open therefore will cause difficulty breaking. also front pads on all peugeots should be cahanged between every 30-40000miles. most smaller peugeots do not have sensors do give you any warning that the pads are low. hope this helpsWhat tyre pressure should an 1995 suzuki swift be?
