In a nutshell, diesel is a compression fuel and gas is a ignition based fuel, basicaly saying it takes a spark to ignite gasoline rather on the other hand it takes compression and heat to make diesil to ignite. notice that diesel engines have glow plugs and gasoline engines have spark plugs.
