Question:
I have an 89 firebird with a bad 305 TBI in it and have a fresh rebuilt chevy 1968 307 I want to drop in it.. what do i need? What can i swap over? I hope to swap my manifold with the carb and whatnot already on it and accesories (alternator, water pump etc) and get by with only buying gaskets.

You can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear!Alternator wont charge battery?
That 307 has very little hope of working on this new vehicle. There is no way you will get the sensors to mount, the accessories, or the intake(all coming from the 305).
Im thinking about buying a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution?
Just ain't goin to happen without more machine work and 3rd party parts suppliers(shakey at best)
Just bought a new BMW M Roadster..what do you think?
Do the right thing and trade of the 307(junk anway!!) and get a 305 long block from a reputable rebuilder and swap over the rest of the parts to the new 305. A 350 would be a bad choice unless you can do the computer changes!! Other wise the 350 will run like crap(seen that one before).

How did you get a post-fuel injection model to work with a carboreauted engine? I think that'll be a big issue for you, as well as how vague your question is.How do you take out the stock radio in a 2003 chevy s10?
The intake wont fit. But all front engine accesories will. The intake is the problem, you would have to run the 307 as a carburated engine. Though I believe edelbrock or some one makes a tbi complete set up for those heads. you may want to check to see if they make a intake to mount to the older heads that would allow you to mount a tbi unit on it. GM redesigned their heads in '86 or '87 so that would be your dividing line. Otherwise exernaly on the block not much had changed. Although the newer heads are missing a mounting hole if i remember right. they only have two on the front on the newer ones compared to three on the older ones. The trans will mount right up. just use the matching flywheel. You may want to check compression ratio to make sure it isnt to low. Im not sure how a lower compression ratio would affect the computer, and how the engine would run. Thats something for the certified mechanics to answer. You are almost trying to de-engineer what GM has done with their engines.i know that small blocks changed in 1986..if you look at rebuilt sites u will notice it... the 307 [[ ya should be using a 350] is easy to use except for wiring...[painless wiring] Summit racing and Jegs has most the parts...advance has the rest..a new non pollution distributor will make it run better then the 89.thinking on it call jegs or summit tech line.they will definitly know the intake ?
