another honda dealer said " ya need a new shock absorb"
They all want to sell me a hi cost service repair but both never said the same things i am confused.

that van has 5 mounts,good news is that you probably only need 2 replaced maybe a third,bad new is the two that probably need replacing are the expensive ones,the front lower mount down by the bottom of the rad is a vacuum operated hydraulic mount the other one is at the rear of the engine,lower,directly opposite of the front lower one,the possible third one is the upper one by the power steering pump,the best way to know if the mount mount is broken,is when at a full stop you blip the throttle moderately and feel for a clunk ,then ave someone watch with one foot on the brake while in drive,with the other foot blip the throttle see if engine rocks excessively,the front & rear lower mounts are broken ,i lower the sub frame and replace the mounts,you must support the engine assembly,the front lower mount once removed,if you turn it over you will see oil drip out of it,the rear one will be torn,that probably your problem,while the subframe is lowered you might want to replace the swaybar insulators as you probably feel a lite clunck while going over bumps,the are easy to replace with the subframe lowered,good luck its alot of work for at home1998 Chev. to test motor mounts start the car have someone stand on the side of the fender put the car in gear while holding the brake tightly give the car some gas and have the second person watch and see if the engine moves. there should be very little movement. if there is alot of movement have them use a flashlight to pinpoint the broken mountOk this question is for the people who have an '05 or '06 Malibu...?
If any 02 vehicle anything needs new engine mounts, that would mean that that car was driven the piss out of. I seriously doubt that there are 5 of them anyway. Shocks probably the same story. Struts on the front shocks on the back. What you need is one of those reliable home town mechanics with a good reputation. My advice: "never go to the dealer unless you have to."Just me
open the hood and start the engine.. see whether the engine vibrates (a lot) or not.. or usualy in slow moving traffic jam did ur car vibrates when starting to move..

ok there are a couple of things you can do to detect a broken motor mounts. you can perform a visual inspection to see if there are cracks in the motor mounts. have someone watch the engine. on the side of the the fender and make sure your emergency breaks are on. for safty reasons. start the engine. all you need to do is first put the gear in D with your foot on the breaks. then shift to R. with your foot still on the breaks keep shifting back and forth from D to R for about four to five times with the other person wathing the engine movements. engine should move slightly but not too much. if you hear any bump whild shifting between the gears, and there are too much vibrations and enging movements, motor mount(s) are bad have them replaced check ebay you might get one for cheap. dont tap on the gas. its dangerousMore Questions & Answers ...
