Question:
I have a 1993 Jeep that I am in love with. I want to start building up my Jeep some more (33' tires, lift, some other stuff) but it has 140k miles and is starting to show some serious wear.
1989 GMC 4x4 with a ticking motor?
Question: IF i put in a brand new engine, would it be the same as "resetting the clock" and having a new Jeep (as far is it running strong for another 10 years)?
Answers:
Does the monsoon sound system make the Volkswagen Beetle's speakers play with more base?
I own a shop, and I can tell you this; No it won't because the only thing that you are adding new is the engine. If you go through the rest of the drive-train components, the cooling system, the brake system, the steering system, and the charging system, you should be there. If you can classify the vehicle as mechanically sound after the restoration work is done, then you can get many miles of service. Gears, bearings, and seals will all need to be replaced to be able to say the drive-train is done. If your drive-train is in good condition and not in need of a lot to get it back to new condition, then you can look forward to many years of fun with it. Glad to help out, Good Luck! No, because you'd still have to worry about the transmission, which would be a major expense if it were to go out. (I've been a Jeep owner for ten years).
Which Subaru STI is better, the japanese or asian pacific version.?
You did not say the Jeep model that you have? but there is alot more to a Jeep than just the engine, and "serious wear" could include the drive train also like transmission, transfer case, axle's, breaks...so just a new motor on a 14 year old Jeep may not re set the clock...Don't worry about raplacing the engine yet. Jeep engiens last a very long time 300k miles plus.
Jeeps are very modular cars, particularly the old cjs and yjs. They are simple; tub, hood, fenders, motor, transmission, t-case, driveshaft, axles, and tires. All of these components can be readily purchased secondhand or aftermarket. My 95 YJ has over 200k miles on it and the motor is not one of my concerns. The transmission is something to be concerned about.
Can someone tell me what is wrong with my transmission in my 2004 GTI 1.8T?
Because of the simplicity of these cars and the availability of parts old jeeps are frequently restored. Changing out the engine will not ensure reliability for ten years (ten years is a lot to ask for from a jeep). The good thing about these old jeeps is that there's not a lot of complicated accessories to worry about. No power seats, mirrors, windows, interior, etc. It is very rugged and easy to maintain. So over the next ten years if there's not a motor, transmission, or drive line problem then you are good.
really if you replace the tanny, transfer case and rebuild the engine you should be fine
