There should be 3 buttons. Hold the far left button and the far right button at the same time until the light flashes (it will seem like awhile but it will flash). That clears out anything that was previously in there (just to be sure). Then hold your garage door opener near the buttons. Push and hold the button that you want it programmed to and the garage door opener at the same time until the light flashes. This should mean that it was programmed. Of course test it before you take your garage door opener out of the car.
