my friend has a 1998 Buick Regal GS and the radio is SUPPOSED to turn off when you open the door. it doesnt. i did yesterday and and every day before today. what would cause it to not shut off? it will eventually shut off after about 20 - 25 min...whats goin on?

I own a shop, and work on stuff like this all the time. When you close the door, it activates the timer/relay. If the dome lights are working when you open and shut the doors, then the radio should work, IF the timer part of the relay is working. What I would do is; go to a parts store and purchase a can of electronic cleaner. Clean the door jam switches, and the relay posts as well as the socket terminals it goes into. The usual culprit with these is the relay has gone bad, or not getting a good ground and/or power to it. Check all grounds such as the strap that goes from the engine to the body, and the battery to the body/frame. Take the bolts out, clean it good with a wire brush, add some grease, and put them back. Corrosion is the #1 killer of the operation of these components.Glad to help out, Good luck!

i own a repair shop and when the door is opened on these its supposed to arm a relay switch that shuts the radio off,id say from what you have said it either has a bad door jam switch and isn't triggering the relay or the relay its self has gone bad in it,you can get a manual that shows all the locations of these and it will help you find out where its located on that particular car,good luck i hope this helps.How good are the 2005 wrxs and wrx sti?
