I pulled it out, cleaned it, put it back in, then pulled it out to test it. Since then, it refuses to go in. This is the first time this has ever happened.

Have you tried to turn it? Most cars have a bend to get around the engine and you have to twist as you put it in to get it to seat all the way...What do you think this is worth? 1988 Porsche 944 104K R-Title (but excellent condition)?
Try some K-Y lubei believe it's designed to go in only one way. the ring needs to lean back towards the engine. also, there is a plastic guide that sits on top of the dipstick tube that is notorious for breaking, might want to take a peek at that.

ok is it right after oil change, if it is then I don't what's the problem.I'm not sure if you know that Jetta burns engine oil. I think your engine is low on oil.
