Personally I would go after the BMW X5 - it looks better than the big Cayenne boat. I've heard a Porsche Cayenne Tubro's engine tone and that sounded like pure heaven though. The X5 is an older design but it sells well and people love it. Make sure to get the bigger rims on it as the base wheelbase looks ugly.How do you unscrew a screw that is totally stripped?
Take the two for a test drive at different dealerships - get a feel for how they turn - how comfortable the seats are - and their acceleration (how far down you have to press the gas) - how much oil change costs - stuff like that.

I've extensively driven and worked on both. The Porsche easily out-handles and out-runs the X5. It is the superior driver's machine. However the BMW has what appears to be a larger and more practical interior. I say appears to be, because looks can be deceiving.After doing some mechanical work on both including 4 engine changes on X5's, I cannot recommend the BMW from a mechanical or reliability standpoint. The new ones we prepped and service had numerous problems with engines, transmissions, electronics, A/C, power sunroofs and fit and finish. We had no such problems with the Porsches or their cousins the VW Touaregs.
From a styling perspective, I personally think the X5 looks nicer, but that's a subjective opinion...
