What is electronic throttle control?

Question:
I have a 2005 Ford Mustang. A warning light came on that indicated something about a default in the electronic throttle control. Explain to me in full detail what this means.

Answers:

Same problem but worse now?

In traditional vehicles, the throttle body (the part of the engine that controls the incoming air) was connected to the accelerator pedal and operated by a mechnical linkage, typically a cable...

Considering a 5 year old Mercedes CLK, is there specicic reasons I would go to the 320 or 430?

Electronic throttle control is a throttle body setup that is operated by small motor, commanded by the computer. Also known as throttle by wire. You press the accelerator and the computer tells the throttle body to respond accordingly. The primary advantages of this setup are smoother throttle engagements (which can protect the engine from the heavy footed driver and provide better fuel economy), elimination of a seperate cruise control module/motor, and prevent throttle hanging from linkage binding.

The message you are receiving indicates there is some issue with the main computer communicating with the throttle unit.

What does customization mean?

them new fords are like a stealth bomber... in the fact thats its fly by wire

I just bought a 1986VW Jetta Gl 1.8 for $500 it needs a tune up and alternator belt did I get a good deal?

Instead of a cable connected from the gas pedal to the throttle, you have a sensor connected to the gas pedal, a computer, and a motor that opens and closes the throttle. The system is designed with many many safeguards that will all turn the light on and disable the system if violated.
If one of the three sensors in the gas pedal disagree with the other two, or if one of the three sensors in the throttle disagree, or if the throttle does not move to where the computer wants it you will get the light. If you stick your finger in the throttle on push the butterfly valve open you will get an instant light and the system will disable throttle control and return to idle.
Even if you push the throttle open manually the engine will barely go above idle because the computer will start shutting off the fuel injectors

Just bought a 07 wrx?

I agree with the other posts in what it does... it basically turns on the light and goes into limp mode (the idle speed only thing one was talking about)

I have sludge in my MR 2 Spyder.the superlube mechanic said I should take it to toyota garage.?

basically it won't do nothing except cause headaches such as the light and the limp home mode.. no acceleration no nothing.. need to have it diagnosed at dealer... some had issues with a bad TP sensor...

Where do i find performance parts for my 4 cylnder chevy s 10?
