The 1600 engine came out with major improvements over their predecessors.The biggest improvement was going to dual port cylinder heads.(As opposed to single port heads.) Another improvement was moving the oil cooler back away from covering the #3 cylinder. And giving it a larger fan shroud for better air flow.The intake and exhaust valves were made slightly larger for better aspiration,as well as giving it a larger carberator.(34pict4).
The oil cooling was improved by putting a larger capacity oil pump, and adding a second oil pressure relief valve. I hope that helps.
