I own a transmission shop, and have seen this before. This is a common sound made by a transmission that has a dirty filter. I would think it is because the fluid doesn't go that route as quickly as it should, thus making a noise like it is building up pressure. This sound is usually made from N-D, or from N-R. Just sitting the pump is working, and when you shift it to D this changes the direction of the pressure from bypass to applying the D clutches. A restriction of sort within the circuit will cause a noise, and by the same virtue a high pressure situation within the circuit can act the same way. Once a circuit has all the pressure it uses, (excess pressure from the accumulator) will sometimes cause the check balls in the valve body to viberate. This noise is usually nothing to be concerned about, but is a good indicator the transmission is over due for a fluid & filter change. Some stuff on the market called "Lube Gard" will condition the transmission by freeing up sticking valves, thus eliminating pressure over run. This stuff can be purchased at most parts stores, and cost about $12- $15 a bottle. Since the elimination of whale oils in fluids, the stability is not what it once was. If you will have the fluid & filter changed, add a bottle of Lube Guard (not sure of the spelling) to the transmission, you will see the noise go away. There are two types of this stuff, so make sure you get the one that is for your vehicle. I believe you need the one in the white bottle, but make sure by reading the application guide on the bottle. At our shop we put a bottle of this in every transmission we rebuild, and very seldom do we have one come back with any problems.Glad to help out, Good Luck!
