Powerglide and theyare easily (cheaply up graded) or a 350 or 400 turbo. Ya might have to get the driveshaft altered but they work fine too. Also the 700r4 with OD can be put in there also (great gas mi). Take s some work but not a whole lot

wahoo a 62...congrats. I love those old ones. Anyways, a turbo 350 I THINK has same bolt pattern, if not your can get different bell housings for about any tranny nowadays. good luck and keep them oldies alive.

Almost all Chevrolet I-6 and V8 bell-housings use the same bolt pattern, be it a powerglide, a 4L60E or anything in between. They will all bolt up. You will have to replace the flywheel with a automatic flexplate, change the cross member, and possibly the driveshaft, but other than than it's pretty straight forward.
