you probably need a new regulator which is built into the alternator, you can have it rebuilt or buy a rebuilt alternator :(alternator
A mechanic sitting next to me said to take off the positive battery cable and leave it off overnight.....when you reattach it if it arcs without the key in the ignition then you'll know there is something in your car sucking the power......there is nothing on any vehicle from the factory that is made to suck the power from a battery at a rate that would kill it.
My 2001 Subaru Outback Legacy keeps stalling any suggestions PLEASE HELP!!!!!?
I wouldn't listen to the guy with the mechanic sitting next to him. He's right but his answer would only apply if your battery was dying overnight or in a few days, you said you get a few weeks out of your battery, so that means it's being drained WHILE the ignition is on, not while the ignition is off. and some vehichles will spark slightly, cuz they do have things that work without the ignition on, but they aren't strong enough to drain your battery. again, he is right, but not for your situation if you are getting a few weeks of life and driving time out of your vehicle.Honestly, you sound like your having problems with your wiring. (check your wire ends/connectors around your fuse box the one inside the engine compartment). If you see metal showing around the ends of wires/connectors, you are probably getting shorted out when you use your cig lighter. Check your battery cables as well, if their not in good condition, or dirty, corroded, etc.
The main thing I wanted to tell you though is to go to Edmunds.com. You have to look at the tabs going across the top of the page and click on forums. You can search for your vehicle, and if there is a common problem with a drain on power for your specific vehicle, you most likely will find it there. I have diagnosed 3 major issues in the last 6 years using Edmunds. What it is ~ other people post questions and answers regarding problems with their vehicles. So if you go in to the forums looking for your vehicle in specific, IF it is a common problem that is causing the power to drain, other people probably have experienced it as well, and you can use their answers recieved to help you with your truck. Or if you don't find anything relevant, sign up and post your own question about it. You'll get answers from mechanics, people that own same vehicle and have had that same problem before. Good luck- but i would still check your engine compartment fuse box and the condition of fuses/relays inside and the condition of wires leading into it and to your battery.
Oh and hey, just on an off chance, if you got your batteries from local parts stores, call ford and find out what type of battery you're supposed to have, just on the off chance there was a typo or misprint at the store for your vehicle. you never know, could be the batteries themselves. probably not, but couldn't hurt to check, i've seen weirder happen with vehicles and their parts
2000 Cavalier Wipers/ Air not working when running HELP!?
Sounds like your alternator isn't putting out enough to charge the battery. if you have a voltage meter you can check this by reading the voltage before starting and after starting. the reading before starting would be12-13V and 13.5+ after starting. it will give you somewhere to start to give some more info. are you doing real short drives between stars, like 1/2 mile?your alt has a brunt out diode take it to big a auto parts and have it tested
