Im looking at a ford smax brochure and it says that the car has as standard an emergency brake light.
I have ask at a ford dealer and they have no idea.
I have even rang up Ford HQ and they have no idea. And yet its in their brochure in black and white!

Further, often only the vehicle directly behind the braking vehicle is able to see the brake lights. If a vehicle performing hard braking could send a message to other vehicles, then all of the vehicles nearby could receive this message. Then these vehicles could warn the driver, activate the brake assist or even start automatic braking.
The Ford S-MAX is equipped with Emergency Brake Assist technology which applies pressure automatically when braking hard.
When the Emergency Brake Assist is engaged the Emergency Brake lights are illuminated. These are located in the same housing as the normal brake lights but are much brighter.

More and more these days when a car is designed and built, they add more safety features, emergency brake lights can be either lights that illuminate brighter than standard brake lights, these are activated when the car brakes suddenly and I mean suddenly in some manufacturers ie Renault and Nissan, their hazard lights flash rapidly 3 times if the driver brakes suddenly at speed, It's supposed to help alert dozing/concentrating drivers on motorways.
Let's face it, If a car brakes in front of you, You don't really know how important it is until, you as the driver realise the car in front has had to brake really hard. Brake lights only shine at 1 brightness, 21watts of brightness.
