what is the origin of the Chevrolet logo and when was it first called the "bowtie?"?
used is going to be cheapest, but comes with obvious downfalls. your best bet would be to ask how many miles were on the car that the turbo was removed from so you can judge for yourself if it would be one you would want to buy.
What is the price of the Pontiac Ventura?
even cheaper: find a Pick and Pull type junkyard in your area and look for a donor car.
but are you sure it's a bad turbo? it's not really a component that fails often, unless the vehicle was abused. if there is a big vacuum leak your vehicle will run poorly, if the coil pack or spark plugs are bad it will run bad...

VW did have some problems with this turbo in that if the oil was not changed often the oil lines feeding it would plug up. So if you do put in a new turbo make sure you replace the oil lines. Also on some early cars VW says to replace the oil pump also.Last keep the oil changed every 3k for regular oil 5k for synthetic oil. This will keep the new turbo running for ever.

I bought my car and the turbo had seized in it(probably cause it was parked and driven very little in the ski village). I didn't know any different as I was previously driving a non -turbo volkswagen....same model for years. But after driving this one, the turbo did free up, and was impressed. So obviously you can drive it without the turbo functioning. I doubt too that it would be the turbo, as all the semi trucks have them and that means that they can not be a problematic item.I got 500,000 miles on mine and still going strong.
