You would need to use a moter around the same time period. If you are looking for total replacement you have quite a few options. in a small block V8 you could go from a 302, 351 or as large as a 460. However the 460s are a little hard to come by. If you want to go smaller you could look into a smaller V6 or straight 6 such as a 240 or 300. Now if you are looking for performance you could go with a Crate motor. Like the "Stroker" 331, 347, 396, 408, 418 or the 427. Its all up to you and what you want out of the motor. Whatever Engine you want to put in there. one beauty of a Van is the engine cover on the inside. BEWARE there are different interior covers depending on small block or big block. 429/460's are fairly easy to come by if you find an E-350 van OR an old u-haul type van. If you want to put in a Powerstroke diesel you can fit one in their, OR if you are so inclined you can put in a 401/477 OR 534 Superduty Gas Engine.--do not confuse this engine with the F/E-250/350 Superduties. this will probably require a custom interior cover but if you got the original, a sawzall and some fiberglass stuff it's not hard to make the cover however you want it.

The E150 came with 3 different engines from the factory. The 300 inch inline 6, the 302 and the 351W. If you have the 300, and are wanting to go to the 302 or 351W, you will need a donor van to get the complete engine INCLUDING the accessories and brackets. Ford has a tendancy to have completely different setups from engine family to engine family. The crossmember is drilled to accept any of these engines, so all you have to worry about on motor mounts is matching mounts to the engine. And be aware that van stuff is different than car and truck. The 2 big differences are motor mounts and oil pan. You can use car engines in vans. You have to have the van pan and mounts to make this work. I speak from personal experience when I say this. Some years ago, I had both an '84 and an '85 Ford vans (had others but I'll not bore you with the details). The '84 had a 6 cylinder and I ended up with a 351W in it. Had to use the van pan for proper clearance. Fortunately, I had a salvage yard and a garage, so I had the necessary parts to complete the job. And as far as the 460 is concerned, these were found in one ton fleet vans. If you can find a wrecked one in a salvage yard, once again, get everything van related for proper installation. So the engine choice is totally up to you. Best case scenario: having a donor van to make the swap. If not, and you are going to get everything from a salvage yard, be sure to specify van so the guy can get you the right stuff.More Questions & Answers ...
