i cant believe the difference in cost of stuff.a 4"lift for my 1980 CJ was 40$,a 4"lift for my 2004TJ is 2800$.the guy at napa said there's no lift kit in the world no matter who makes it thats worth more than 900$.he said look at what you get,can you see 2800$ worth of steel there? i geuss he has a point.i just cant believe coil spring vs.leaf spring is that much diff in price

A leaf spring suspension is incredibly simple and effective. The leaf springs locate the axle, keep the inital caster and pinion angle and of course lift and support the truck. A lift kit for a cj needs only springs to maintain all the major axle alignment factors.I have a mercedes A class 170TD.Does any one know what the EPC light is?
The coil spring setup is incredibly flexible and smoother than leaf springs but there is a cost in complexity. The springs only lift and support the truck. Axle alignment is accomplished with control arms. The problem is the stock arms provide travel for a stock spring. If you put a longer spring with the stock arms the axle will be angled like it was hanging a few inches. The first solution is to replace your upper control arms. This will help maintain your caster angles, but only to a certain point. For better results you need to replace all your control arms. At certain lift heights (5"+), normal control arms don't provide enough travel for the suspension to cycle properly. This is where 'Longarm' systems come in. The arms are much longer and their mounting points are relocated for maximum travel.

Well, one option is to not do it and save the $$$ altogether - why do you want to raise it anyways?That's life. Lift the CJ. It will look good. You'll feel better then.
