I have a 2001 Chrysler Town and Country van. The steering has recently started to "catch". It only lasts a second and then it is fine. Any ideas on what may be going on??

You probably have a problem with the power rack unit. It also could possibly be a loose belt, but that should squeal and this sounds like the rack. The pinion and wheel assembly is worn out or has a dent on it. You need to replace that part. It is the point where the action of the steering rod is transferred to the wheels.Could be as simple as a slipping belt. or a rack and pinion problem. Take it to your repair shop and have it checked out.
I have a 1999 Sebring Conv. Limited (purchased new)and have had the catching steering problem a few times. It usually preceeds the replacement of lower tie rod ends or ball joints. If this car ran as good as it looks it would be an Audi. After 162,000 miles and faithful service at lots of dollars I am finished inputing any major repairs. Heaven help the next deer that crosses into my path as this car is worth more dead than alive. It is, however, the best American convertible I have ever owned.

you will find it will be the power steering pump,there has also been problems with lower ball joints.well first of all its from turning to hard its ur gear if you pop ur hood there is a pin holding the sttering colomn and the front axl together, check it out im thinking its your pin were to find it is on the left side of ur car right by the front right tire
it may be as simple as a steering collum bearing starting to wear out
