I have a turbo 400 tranny on a 75 chevy truck, usually when you shift from park the shift lever is stiff and you can hear the tranny clicking in and out of gear. why is mine when you pull it out of park its just free going down? I dont hear any clicks in the tranny. the only thing that hold it in gear is the teeth in the column.

in the transmission there is a spring loaded keeper which keeps the transmission in the respective gear. Sounds like this has broken. Remove the Transmission pan...then look at the shifter shaft...it should show it there. you will probably find parts from this in the transmission pan.subaru loyale 1.8l engine replace with 1.8l turbo?
If you have a transmission out of the vehicle...or just have the shifter disconnected...you should be able to shift the gears on the transmission and feel it click to each gear. It's in the transmission not the shifter.

there is a spring loaded detent in the transmission. the spring is probably broken. you want to have this fixed because the manual valve will not be held accurately in place and premature transmission failure will result.when is the 2007 2008 2009? comaro coming out?

Sounds like the bushing are worn out..in the column theres notchs to hold the shift arm in position for the respectiv gears. the reason your not feeling the shift firmly is because your shift rod bushings are worn. GM sells them for like 3 dollars and its a easy fix.More Questions & Answers ...
