My Service Traction System light comes on sometimes and I hear what sounds like the car adjusting something. It does not come on all of the time but the ABS light is on all of the time. I had the brakes serviced about a month ago so I have new brakes. What is causing this and how much should I estimate the cost to repair the problem?

If the ABS light comes on immediately it likely has something to do the actual ABS control unit. Those are expensive, ask the place that did the work if they made any adjustments. Typically ABS control systems should only be serviced by the OEM. If the light comes on when you are driving, or if there is a catastrophic short in one of the wheel sensors it would also cause this and be far cheaper. Since the traction control light is also coming on it may very well be a wheel sensor since the same sensor is often used to detect wheel slippage and motion stop (for traction and ABS). The sensor price varies, for my Chevy Corsica is was 60+ for the front ones, and a lot for the rear since the sensor was housed in the hub. i own a repair shop,and its not as bad as it sounds on this one,it could just be maintenance reminder on it causing this to happen they will do this ever so many miles,but i would have it checked,because when they was doing the brakes on it they might have hit a sensor and knocked a wire loose on it or something,but its not a big major thing with it,but take it back and have it checked,at this time there would be no way as to guess the cost of fixing it,if its a loose wire,probably 0 cost on it,but have it checked to be sure,good luck i hope this helps.it sounds to me like your traction light is the motherboard of sorts for your cars braking system, what's happening is you have at least 1 bad abs sensor and the traction sensor is reading that problem and notifying you to get the abs sensors checked, most of the time it is only 1 abs sensor that goes bad, i would take it to a service station like midas or autozone and ask them if they can run a code scan on the car , they should be able to give you a code # and definition of the code not to mention the cost of the part .

If this started happening right after the brakes were serviced, I would suspect that the repair shop did not put the wheel speed sensor wires back into their holders after the brake calipers were removed.I would take it back where they put the brakes on, and make them fix it.

Sounds like wheel bearing/abs sensor.Your service traction light is on because your abs light is on.They are related.You should not hear any kind of noise as when your abs light is on,your antilock brakes are inop.Thats why if you hear a noise could be a wheel bearing.Take it to a shop & have your abs system scanned.Wheel bearings are not cheap.Expect $300-500.But it should be repaired.Good luckMore Questions & Answers ...
