Most newer car owners trade in their vehicles before these cars start to show their age. Also many cars will just rust away, or get into an accident before the end of their usable life span. In the eyes of the manufacturers, why build a cheap car to last forever when most of them will be dead before they start falling apart anyway? Sounds stupid, but it saves them money.
