Question:
My father's 93' nissan pick-up won't read the fuel level properly, after the fuel pump and sending unit was replaced. It's reading between 1/2 tank and 3/4 of a tank.
When the sending unit is unplugged the fuel gauge goes to zero (empty) when it's plugged back in it goes back between 1/2 tank and 3/4 tank.
I told him to unplug the battery and reset the computer but it didn't help. All the fuses are good.
2000 Chevy Silverado service engine light?
He first had problems of the fuel pump fuse blowing. Our mechanic traced it back to the sending unit and pump and replaced both with new.
Can someone please tell me how to change the ball joints in my 99 Dodge ram1500?
Now everything works great but the fuel gauge is not reading right. Even if the tank is empty it still says 1/2 to 3/4 full!
Yesterday he ran out of gas. The fuel light came on and the gauge was still reading 1/2 to 3/4! Somebody that sold dad the pump said it may have to run out of gas before it would reset itself and read right, but that didn't happen!
It's like the float is sticking in the tank, but it's not. We think!

GM Mechanics/Technicians answer please!?
The new sender unit might have been bent or damaged. They are very delicate, even a slight knock can affect them. Back to get it checked Im afraid. If they fitted a faulty part its there problem. It should NEVER have left the garage without being checked...!Try contacting a junkyard or call Saw Mill auto sales in yonkers, ny and order a new 'cluster' for your car. I don't think thay are that expensive used.
i have a golf gt tdi on a w reg 2000 its a six speed how can i tell if its a pd engine?
i would change out ur float myself goodluckwhere is the release botton for the gas lid on an 2002 Kia Optima?
Sounds like the new float sending unit is bad or you have a possible short in the wiring. How do you find a short in backup lights on a 97 GMC p/u?
Make sure you have your mechanic check all the grounds. You might even want to take out the instrument panel it's self and check if anything has gotten in it that could obstruct the needle. It may be behind the gauge, not in the clear section. But my best guess is you either got a bad sending unit, or it was installed without a ground wire connected. It's an honest mistake and I've done it myself before.More Questions & Answers ...
